OF MY TRIP TO KUALA PERLIS

I went back to Sungai Petani last weekend and decided to drive to Kuala Perlis for the seafood.

Although there is a new highway from Bukit Kayu Hitam to Kuala Perlis, I took the old road via Alor Setar, Kuala Sanglang and Simpang Empat.

Nothing much had changed all these years while I was abroad. The scenery pretty much looked the same as I remembered it. Paddy fields, the irrigation ditch looks familiar.

Entering Perlis I did notice however there are quite a few houses painted in pink like the above picture. I cant remember any house in pink along this road eleven years ago. Its either that, or my memory is failing me.

I was not impressed at all when I reached Kuala Perlis. The tired jetty look uninviting and out of shape. New buildings and stalls were built but not maintained. Right in front of it, an abandoned building remains standing. And beside the access road lies a rubbish dumping area.

Oh well, its the Malaysian style again at work here. The government spent million of RM's promoting tourism abroad, but neglected the basic facilities back home. When are they ever going to learn? 50 years of Independence and still we cannot take care of our own backyard.

At least, the seafood is still good though.

Where has 50 years of nationhood brought us? In my opinion, more people have gotten greedier, lazier and more ignorant. We could have gone further in progress, development and unity. It is such a shame. Our country is so rich with resources and culture. But most of it is squandered solely to maintain the control, power and pockets of a few....

M tempted to just agree with yr points here but i'd like to believe there's hope for Malaysia as yet...
may be m naive but y must we wait for the govt to move their collective butts. dulu-dulu orang kmpg buat gotong-royong to clean, repair n maintain buildings n surroundg areas. its a small start but perhaps by not asking for help we can shame our govt into a more proactive action...!!
