CODE OF ETHICS FOR MPS

The Code of Ethics for MPs, among others, aims to provide a set of disciplines and guidelines that must be adhered to by the MPs whether in the august house or outside.

Mohamed Nazri, who is also Deputy Chairman of the Select Committee, said the Code of Ethics would enable all cases of ethics violation by MPs to be discussed and investigated by Standing Committee on the Code of Ethics for MPs instead of being debated in the house.

It will also enable members of the public to lodge complaints on irregularities committed by MPs in discharging their responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Acting Chairman of the Backbenchers Club (BBC) Datuk Raja Ahmad Zainuddin Raja Omar, who is also a member of the Select Committee, denied that the setting up of the committee was due to the increasing cases of ethics violation by MPs.

I wouldnt jump up and down reading this news piece. In my opinion, they can create a whole lot of Code of Whatever, but if the MP's themselves are not sincere to follow the guidelines, honestly I dont think it will work.

MP's should mind their language and behaviour all the time and failing to do so just shows how irresponsible they are.

By the way, this article did not mention what kind of punishment will be given to those MPs who violates the Code of Ethics. In this case, I would like to suggest to the Select Committee to consider rotan punggung (public caning), ketuk ketampi and lari keliling (run around) Parliament as penalty.

They are a bunch of grown up school boys anyway.

If they follow the code to the letter, sincerely, then this could usher in a more distiguished parliament unlike the circus of clowns and napping sleepyheads that it has degenerated into. If they follow your suggestions for punishments, they should televise live the rotan, ketuk ketampi and larian. If medically unfit for those items, sapu lantai or cuci longkang parliament!

As part of my job I was required to edit n proofread the Hansard n went thru abt 12 yrs worth of parliamentary proceedings. U’d surprise (or not) by the level of mentality and mind-set not to mention the demeaning and condescending attitude from both fences… the problem is they KNOW that they are being demeaning and condescending… its just they don’t care coz what’s said in parliament stays in parliament.

Well said. No point in having Code of Ethics if the MPs themselves dont give a shit.

What's said on those white papers will just stay on the papers. Unless they introduce punishments like replaying the video of the MPs violating the code over and over again at Bintang Walk, Petaling Street or the busy traffic lights in town. Then put a big title in red capital letters: WHAT NOT TO DO/SAY IN PARLIAMENT.

the first thing they need to do is teach the MPs the meaning of ethics. have to drill into them it's not getik.

WA : Hahaha, that will be the day, bro.

MYA; Exatly what I think. Since they are protected by Parliamentary Immunity, they dont have balls to say it outside.

CG: Yeah, agreed.

DNAS : Love your suggestion. *I AM THATS STUPID MP * came to mind.

Desparil : They all should be made to attend National Service.
